The development and growth of mobile financial services in Bangladesh has led to teething problems especially for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) acting as agents for financial institutions. Many face cash management issues, particularly with respect to the daily spikes in cash-in and cash-out movements. More importantly, banks, distributors and the dealers serving the agents are also not aware of the cash position of the agents.
The CMDSS for TBMM project is aimed at allowing Trust Bank and others in the value-chain to have better visibility of an agent’s cash position and support them during periods of spikes in demand for cash. Such an event would trigger an overdraft facility for individual agents and dealers, to have adequate amounts of cash as defined by Trust Bank thresholds.
The project is led by shurjoMukhi Limited, which works in collaboration with Trust Bank to develop the configuration for the CMDSS. The mainstay of this is a mobile application that provides a dashboard and analytics, builds and rolls out the platform for maximal uptake and utilisation. shurjoMukhi is designing, developing and integrating the system with Trust Bank’s existing Mobile Financial Services platform, TBMM, and contributing to the capacity building of TBMM distributors and agents, along with Trust Bank.
10,000 agents will have received O/D facility from Trust Bank, with BDT 220 million loan disbursed by December 2018.
